Hernando Leal completed advanced studies in orchestral and choral conducting at the University of the Arts in Zurich.
He continued with additional studies in wind orchestra conducting at the Basel Academy of Music FHNW.
He participated actively and passively in various conducting masterclasses with prominent conductors and educators such as Kirk Trevor, Ralf Weikert, Jorma Panula, Uroš Lajovic, and Johannes Schlaefli.
